Fun fact Friday!!! Did you know horses have one of the largest eyes of any land mammal.
Their eyes are about 5 cm (2 inches) across — bigger than an elephant’s!
This gives them almost 350° of vision, meaning they can see nearly all around them without moving their heads.
However, they do have two blind spots: directly in front of their nose and directly behind their tail.
That’s why it’s smart to approach a horse from the side, not from behind or straight in front.

Every contribution — big or small — helps keep our program running strong. 💕

Why is groundwork so important??? Groundwork is one of the most valuable lessons a student can learn. It’s not just about teaching the horse to yield, lead, or stand still—it’s about teaching the rider to listen, communicate clearly, and connect with their horse.
Through groundwork, students learn how to:

🔹 Read a horse’s body language – understanding signs of tension, willingness, or confusion.

🔹 Build respect and trust – establishing leadership in a calm, consistent way.

🔹 Improve timing and pressure-release skills – learning when to ask, when to wait, and when to reward.

🔹 Enhance safety and confidence – handling horses correctly on the ground prevents problems before they start under saddle.

By mastering these fundamentals, students gain the tools to ride with purpose and partnership—not just control. Whether you own your own horse, or ride a lesson horse groundwork is the foundation of everything!
