I first came across this quote at the beginning of Pete Walker’s book “Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving: A Guide and Map for Recovering from Childhood Trauma”

The quote meant so much to me, as it spoke to the pain and anguish I felt having to put myself first. It was one of the best decisions of my life to go no contact with my now deceased mother, though not without pain. I felt so much shame for putting my well-being before my mother.
