I had a doula with the birth of my daughter in 2009 and I truly believe that her presence changed my birth outcome and the way I felt about myself as a mother.

💗Had she not been there to empower me and help me make choices I believe it would have gone very differently. I left my birth feeling excited, strong and ready to take on the many challenges ahead.

💗I saw a stark contrast between my experience and my friends who DID NOT have doulas experiences.

💗It started with the desire to be there for my friends and family to ensure that they had a strong and trained support person. It quickly became so much more.

Why do I love this photo so much, you may ask. Because I have been the one with the water bottle off to the side countless times. And I love this space. Ready and waiting to jump in when needed.

Do you need help up the next few stairs, a sip of water in between steps, reminders that you can do this, making sure partners feel front and center and confident in their ability to support the person they love the most.

Yeah this picture feels so close to my heart ♥️.

Curious what’s going on here?

This tug of war trick was exactly what this mama needed for that last bit of labor after DAYS of laboring. Her doula suggested it and her team was quick to jump in on the action. It was special to witness and document. Congratulations to this mama and her people on their sweet baby boy.

TEAMWORK!! Sometimes your clients are going to want their other little ones around. I like to give them small jobs depending on their age and help get them involved. Their love can provide a lot of oxytocin. I am always mindful though that my clients are not worrying about their little ones because sometimes that can stall labor. Sometimes in their vision having other children around seemed wonderful but in practice it may be hindering them, so I like to watch for signs to make sure they are still comfortable with this choice.
