Therapist Spotlight: Scott Andersen, LAC

When he’s not working with clients, Scott enjoys binge-watching Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the Marvel series, making Muddy Buddies with extra peanut butter, and spending as much time outdoors as possible while he continues to adjust to Arizona winters.

Scott is a Licensed Associate Counselor and a graduate of Liberty University’s Counseling Program. With a background in both business and the military, he brings a grounded, practical approach to therapy. He specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy, supporting individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges.

Drawing from his own military experience, Scott is especially passionate about working with service members, veterans, and their families, offering care that honors the unique realities of military life. Married to his high school sweetheart for over 25 years and a proud father of two, Scott places a strong value on family and connection.

If you’re looking for a therapist who offers steady support, practical tools, and a deep understanding of life’s complexities, Scott would be honored to work with you.

5 Days Until Christmas – Release

As the holidays approach, many of us carry quiet pressure—
to show up a certain way, to meet expectations, to make everything feel meaningful or “just right.”

Today’s reminder is simple: you don’t have to carry all of that.

This season often brings joy and stress, connection and exhaustion. Releasing doesn’t mean giving up—it means allowing yourself to soften where you can.

Maybe release:
• the expectation to please everyone
• the pressure to keep traditions perfect
• the idea that your emotions need to look a certain way
• the belief that rest must be earned

Therapy teaches us that healing often begins with letting go—of unrealistic expectations, of self-criticism, of the stories that say we’re not doing enough.

Mantra: I can let go of what no longer serves me.

As you move through today, notice one thing you can set down—even briefly—and give yourself permission to breathe a little deeper.

Therapist Spotlight: Maria Espinosa, LAC

When she’s not supporting clients, Maria enjoys making gingerbread houses, going to see Christmas lights, and rewatching the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey version, of course).

As a Licensed Associate Counselor at Cedarhurst Counseling, Maria brings a grounded, compassionate presence into the therapy room. She is deeply committed to creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to work through life’s challenges at their own pace.

Maria approaches therapy with warmth, curiosity, and care—meeting clients where they are and walking alongside them as they build insight, resilience, and meaningful change.

If you’re looking for a therapist who balances professionalism with genuine connection, Maria would love to work with you.

✨ Find Your Own Peace This Holiday Season ✨

The holidays can be joyful—and overwhelming. If you’re feeling stretched thin, remember this:

You’re allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to set boundaries. You’re allowed to choose peace.

This week, try giving yourself:

🌿 A quiet moment to breathe

🌿 Permission to say “no” without guilt

🌿 Space to feel whatever comes up

🌿 Compassion for yourself and others

If you need support navigating the stress and emotions of the season, we’re here to help.

Your peace matters. đź’›

When anxiety rises or your mind starts to spiral, grounding can help bring you back into the present moment.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to do this is the 5–4–3–2–1 Technique — a gentle way to reconnect with your senses and remind your nervous system that you’re safe.

Here’s how it works:
5 – Notice five things you can see
4 – Notice four things you can touch
3 – Notice three things you can hear
2 – Notice two things you can smell
1 – Notice one thing you can taste

This practice helps shift your focus away from the internal overwhelm and toward something steady and tangible. It’s a skill clients often use between sessions, in moments of stress, or anytime they need to feel more grounded.

If grounding has been difficult for you, you’re not alone. Our trauma-informed therapists can help you build tools to support your nervous system and feel more present in your daily life.

You don’t have to navigate this alone. We’re here to help.

EMDR is a trauma therapy that helps your brain process difficult experiences so they stop feeling so overwhelming.
You’re not “forgetting” what happened — you’re helping your mind and body finally release the intensity attached to the memory.

Many clients describe EMDR as the moment when something that once felt “too big” finally becomes manageable.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, EMDR may be a helpful next step.
Our trauma-informed therapists are here to walk with you through every part of the process.
