Thank you to this fierce mama for allowing us to share her birth, unfiltered and unsoftened.

Birth isn’t quiet. It isn’t small.
It is power moving through you in waves you can’t understand until you’re inside them.

Let it rise.
Let it roar.
Let your whole body speak.

A river doesn’t apologize for its force, and neither should you. ♥️

Let’s talk about prolactin, the hormone behind your milk supply. 🤱🏽

Prolactin is released every time your baby nurses (or you pump), signaling your body to make more milk. It’s also the hormone that brings those calm, sleepy, bonding feelings after a feed.

Prolactin peaks at night, rises with frequent nursing, and even helps delay ovulation in the early postpartum period. It’s your body’s way of protecting your baby and supporting your breastfeeding journey.

Read above the emotional effects prolactin can have on you postpartum above ⬆️

Why is counter pressure during transition is absolutely amazing?

When contractions hit their peak, firm counter pressure on the lower back can feel life-saving.

It helps relieve deep back pain, encourages baby’s descent, and gives you something steady to focus on when everything feels intense. 💪

It provides an immediate relief and keeps you grounded through the intensity.

Rest is just as important as progress in early labor. (Yes, read that again 🙈)

Sometimes, your body needs a little help to relax and recharge before active labor begins. Benadryl can be a safe and gentle option to help you get the rest you need, calm an overactive mind, and prevent exhaustion before active labor starts.

When your body is rested, contractions are often more effective, and you have more strength, energy and focus for birth. 🌙✨

How Often Does Your Water Break Before Labor?

Many people picture their water breaking as the dramatic start of labor (hello Hollywood movies) but in reality, that’s not usually the case!

Only about 10% experience their water breaking before labor begins (called premature rupture of membranes, or PROM).

For the majority, the membranes release after contractions are already happening, often once the cervix is several centimeters dilated or even just before baby is born.

If your water breaks before contractions start:
✨ Most people go into labor naturally within 12–24 hours.
✨ Note the color, smell, and time your water released, and communicate with your midwife. ALWAYS call!
✨ Stay hydrated, nourished and rest while you wait for things to start.

Every birth unfolds differently, and your body knows just what to do. 🌿
