RSV is being talked about a lot right now and can be scary for many families. Most kids can fight off RSV on their own. The kids at high risk of developing severe disease are those who are :

12 weeks old or younger at the start of RSV season

Premature or low birth weight infants (especially those born before 29 weeks gestation)

Have chronic lung disease of prematurity

Babies with certain types of heart defects

Those with weak immune systems due to illness or treatments

Additional risk factors for severe RSV infections include low birth weight, having siblings, a mother's smoking during pregnancy, exposure to secondhand smoke in the home, history of allergies and eczema, not breastfeeding, and being around children in a child care setting or living in crowded living conditions.

Here is some good information about RSV for all the parents :

Almost all children get RSV at least once before they are 2 years old. For most healthy children, RSV is like a cold. But, some children get very sick with RSV. With RSV season starting earlier than usual again this year, here's what parents need to know.

I started working at Baylor Mesquite 4 years ago. It was the first opportunity I had been given to build a practice on the principles I believed in. I have served every patient and their family as I would like to be treated if I were in their shoes. The profession of medicine is sacred to me. I feel grateful that every single day I have the opportunity to make a child and their parent's day a little bit better!!!!

We have to ask ourselves whether medicine is to remain a humanitarian and respected profession or a new but depersonalized science in the service of prolonging life rather than diminishing human suffering. Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

I came across this advice recently and it really struck a cord with me : The greatest gift we can give a child is our own emotional well being. So let's check in with ourselves, our spouse or a fellow parent and see if they are ok and if there is anything we can do to make their day brighter and happier so they can pass the joy onto their kids.

Formula shortage has been a very concerning event for parents and pediatricians in the last few weeks.
I am getting a lot of questions daily about what formulas to use and which formula brands are ok for the babies. I want to continue to encourage all families to reach out to their pediatricians and ask these questions. We are more than happy to guide you.
Please do not use homemade formulas, dilute the formula, use toddler formulas for babies. Here is an excellent article to answer some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the formula shortage:

Shortages of infant formulas have occurred in some stores, mostly due to pandemic-related supply chain issues and a recent large-scale recall of contaminated products. Read on for tips for families struggling to find infant formula.
