Our group was formed by citizens who are dedicated to advocating animal welfare, community involvement and humane education to further the bond between people and animals and increase the adopt-ability of shelter animals. We endeavor to:

- build awareness in the community about the shelter;
- highlight our adoptable pets & work to increase pet adoptions;
- foster alliances with other animal rescue groups;
- offer community education & outreach highlighting the responsibilities of pet ownership;
- steer fundraising dollars towards agreed upon items not covered by the City of Mesquite Animal Shelter operational budget, such as extraordinary medical procedures, veterinary costs for animals transports to outside rescue groups, and lifestyle & facility upgrades for shelter animals;
- publicize lost animals in order to re-unite them with their owners.

Oh Henry! Henry is a 12 week old orange tabby ready to be adopted. When this little kitten arrived at the shelter, he was feral. He’s spent the last few weeks in a foster home, where he has learned to co-exist with humans inside a house. The other cat in his foster home was instrumental in helping Henry navigate this new lifestyle. He’s now a happy boy who is playful, curious, adventurous, and talkative! Henry will do best in a home with another playful kitten or cat. He is not the kind of cat who will snuggle with you, he’ll come to you for affection only when he wants to, which isn’t very often. That may change with time, as he continues to trust and enjoy humans.
Henry’s adoption fee is $40. He’s already neutered and vaccinated.
Because Henry is currently in a foster home, you’ll need to call (702) 346-5268 to make an appointment with an Animal Control Officer.

Regional representatives from the office of U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, Christian Jones and Candace Wells, visited the Mesquite Police Department today and toured the newly completed Mesquite Animal Shelter.

During their visit, Animal Control Manager Joe Macias was presented with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Senator Rosen in honor of the shelter’s expansion grand opening and ribbon cutting. The certificate recognizes the department’s commitment to rescuing and rehoming animals in the Mesquite community and extends congratulations and best wishes for continued success.

The Mesquite Police Department’s Animal Control Officers and volunteers remain dedicated to providing compassionate care for the animals in our community.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Mesquite Animal Shelter is open to the public and will take place tomorrow, March 5, at 10:00 a.m. We invite community members to join us in celebrating this important milestone.

PUPDATE ON Grizzly

Hello beautiful people working the Mesquite Animal Shelter.
My name is Sean and I adopted Grizzly you guys last February 2025. I just wanted to share an update with you and some recent photos. We’re doing great. For the first 6 months he had tons of separation anxiety and it was hard to leave him alone because he’d bark non-stop until I’d get back home but we’ve worked through that stage and he is completely comfortable and confident whenever I leave him alone now. He’s as happy as ever and I’m really thankful you guys took such good care of him while he was with you.
Much love!

In Japanese, Mikasa translates to “beautiful blossom,” and is a name often given to royalty! If you’d like to adopt your own beautiful princess, Mikasa would love to grace you with her presence!
UPDATE: ADOPTED!

Mikasa has been waiting for too long, let’s find her a forever home! She’s a 3 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Pit/Blue Heeler mix. We haven’t put her on the scale for a precise weight, but we’re guessing she’s about 50lbs. She’s a sweetheart, loves to get pets and rubs from all of the volunteers! She really enjoys toys, especially the durable kind to chew on. She’s a strong girl, but she walks very well on a leash. The shelter is currently under construction, so it’s extra noisy and chaotic, but even so, Mikasa makes the best of her time outside of her cage with the volunteers, sunbathing or relaxing on the bench after she’s had a walk or playtime. Mikasa came to us when her owners living situation changed a couple months ago. She’s a great girl, housetrained, good manners, and deserving of a loving home!

Mikasa’s adoption fee is $60. She’s already spayed and vaccinated, so she’s ready to go home!

If you think Mikasa might be a good fit for you, please call (702) 346-5268 to arrange a meet and greet! Due to construction, an appointment must be made, no walk-ins!

Please share to help Mikasa find a family!!

Is your cat constantly attacking your ankles or biting your hands? 🩸✋🙀

You might have accidentally trained them to do it!
One of the most common mistakes new cat owners make is using their fingers to wrestle with a tiny kitten. It’s adorable when they weigh 2 pounds, but you are hardwiring their brain to view human flesh as a hunting target.
When they grow into a 10-pound adult with sharp teeth and strong jaws, that same "game" becomes painful and dangerous.

**The Golden Rule of Cat Play:** Hands are ONLY for petting and loving. Toys (especially long wand toys) are for hunting and biting. Keep the kill zone away from your skin!
