When you’re face-to-face with disturbing or traumatic experiences on the job, you can’t fall apart. You just Keep Going. You draw hard lines inside yourself so you can do what has to be done.
But we all have those patients who stay with us… whose stories come back, uninvited, when we’re trying to sleep or be present with the people we love.
As a licensed mental health clinician who specializes in working with emergency and medical professionals dealing with intrusive or harassing trauma memories I've seen how often providers like you are expected to carry on alone.
I’m working on a series of articles — maybe even a book — about what it’s really like to be a healthcare provider continuing to serve despite the emotional cost of this work.
🩺 If you’ve had a traumatic experience on the job, found a way to keep functioning, and still carry that one patient you can’t forget — I’d be honored to hear your story.
❗️You don’t have to share details of the memory itself to participate.
By sharing your perspective, you're helping reduce stigma, support your peers, and contribute to change in a system that often overlooks the mental health of its own.
