Here's some March recreational opportunities for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in Jefferson Parish. Jefferson Parish Recreation Department

Good evening and Happy March 1st!!!

Coming to you with our March Programs for this month! As always we have our Sing It Karaoke class on Tuesdays from 6pm-7pm for ages 13+, our Beats Melody + Motions class on Thursdays from 5:30-6:15 (ages 13+) and 6:30pm-7:15pm (ages 5-12).

As for sports we will have two more weeks of Basketball and then switch into Pickleball (ages 13+). We will also be having Track (ages 13+) on Wednesdays and continuing with Bocce (ages 13+) on Thursdays.

As for other programming, we will have our Chipotle Fundraiser on March 10th from 5pm-9pm. On March 14th, we will have our Bunny Hop Sensory Event (ages 6-12) from 10am-12pm. Entry cost to this event is $2 per participant. Parents/Guardians must pay as well. Lastly, on March 28th, we will be having our Pancake Breakfast to honor our Ree Athletes! If you would like to attend that event, please see Coach Burg or Mr. Glynn at the center.

There are two warming centers for residents in Jefferson Parish at Terrytown Playground (641 Heritage Avenue, Terrytown, LA 70056) and the Ree Alario Multi-Purpose Center (6900 Saints Drive, Metairie, LA 70003).

These centers will remain open for people and pets in need of a warm place during the cold. Residents with pets are asked to bring a pet carrier. The Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority will also assist individuals living outdoors seek temporary shelter.

Those with questions or in need of transportation to the warming centers can contact the Jefferson Parish Emergency Operations Center at (504) 349-5360.

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for Jefferson Parish from 6 p.m. today through at least Tuesday (Jan. 27) at 2 p.m. According to the US National Weather Service New Orleans Louisiana, rain has moved out of the area and the colder air mass has is moving in. Expect extremely frigid conditions and nearly single-digit wind chills, which will not move out until Wednesday.

Protection for the 4 Ps — people, pets, pipes, and plants — should be in place. Updates will be posted in the comment section of this post.
