Congratulations to our very own Vacherie Dialysis Center for this huge accomplishment! We are so thankful to be part of St. James Parish.
St. James Parish Recognizes Vacherie Dialysis as Business of the Month
Convent, LA – The St. James Parish Economic Development Board is proud to recognize Vacherie Dialysis as the February 2026 Business of the Month, recognizing the clinic’s longstanding commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate kidney care to residents of St. James Parish and surrounding communities.
Vacherie Dialysis offers comprehensive care services, including in-center dialysis, home dialysis options, and collaborative transplant support through partnerships with leading medical institutions such as Tulane University. By delivering essential treatments close to home, the clinic ensures patients can access consistent care while remaining connected to their families and support systems.
Vacherie Dialysis is owned and operated Dr. Mustafa Hatipoglu, a nephrologist whose dedication to patient-centered care spans four decades. Dr. Hatipoglu was born and raised in Turkey, before immigrating to America at 29 to complete his advanced training and his residency at St. Louis Hospital in Missouri. He completed further training at Louisiana State University and then pursued his lifelong dream of opening his own clinic.
Today, the practice includes seven clinics strategically located throughout South Louisiana, with additional branches in Gramercy, Metairie, Chalmette, LaPlace, Morgan City, and Raceland. This regional presence allows dialysis patients to receive life-sustaining treatment close to home, a priority for patients who need dialysis multiple times a week.
Dr. Hatipoglu said, “Local care for kidney problems is very important since dialysis is done three times a week. Patients need a service close to home, which is why I’ve sought to expand services over the years, allowing patients to be conveniently served and maintain a high quality of care. All of our clinics are fully owned by our practice, and we constantly seek to invest in the best technology to better serve our patients.”
This year, Dr. Hatipoglu will celebrate 40 years since opening his first clinic. This accomplishment is made even more meaningful as he is joined by his daughter, Dr. Arzu Hatipoglu the medical director for the practice and a fellow nephrologist.
Dr. Hatipoglu encourages residents to take their health seriously, and prioritize a healthy lifestyle as a preventative. He said, “The biggest tip is to monitor your weight and stay in a healthy range, and to watch salt intake since it can increase blood pressure. For example, if you know you have a hereditary history of high blood pressure, don’t ignore that. Take care of yourself and prioritize prevention and a healthy lifestyle. Louisiana has a high rate of diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney issues that is due to lifestyle and diet. Lifestyle is a very important factor in our health.”

Swelling, fatigue, dizziness, or dark urine during or after exercise may signal dehydration or kidney stress. Pay attention to these warning signs and adjust your activity to stay safe and healthy.
Walking, cycling, and swimming are safe, low-impact ways to stay active outdoors while protecting your kidneys. Choose shaded areas, avoid peak heat, and listen to your body as you exercise.
Your kidneys depend on proper hydration, especially in the heat. Drink water regularly during outdoor exercise to prevent dehydration, which can strain your kidneys and increase the risk of complications.
Staying active helps support blood pressure, circulation, and kidney function. Light to moderate outdoor activities can be beneficial, but avoiding overexertion in warm weather is key to protecting your kidneys.
Remote monitoring, lab tests, and customized summer care plans can help protect your kidneys. Digital tools and early warning signs allow you and your care team to act fast when temperatures rise.
Summer heat can strain kidney function—especially for those with CKD, on dialysis, or post-transplant. Dehydration, electrolyte loss, and heat stress increase your risk.
Vacations don’t have to derail your kidney-friendly diet. With planning and smart choices, you can enjoy your trip and stay on track with your health goals.

From humble beginnings, Mustafa Hatipoglu, M.D. began his journey in Nephrology and Dialysis. As a graduate of LSU, Dr. Hatipoglu began his Nephrology practice in south Louisiana. With a strong dedication and love for his patients, he became dis-satisfied with the level of quality and inferior care in area dialysis clinics.
Dr. Hatipoglu opened his first dialysis clinic in Chalmette in 1980. As his practice grew Dr. Hatipoglu opened seven additional facilities in south Louisiana as to better serve his organization’s patients in their local areas.Travelling three days per week for dialysis can be challenging. For this reason, Metropolitan Dialysis Centers have eight locations to better serve their patients, without lengthy and taxing travel added to their dialysis experience.
Because our company is Nephrologist-owned, our ultimate goal for our patients is 100% recovery. Our unique relationship with the Tulane Transplant Team creates this opportunity for every patient we touch. Our patients receive one-on-one care from our Nephrologists once per week while dialysis is a part of their treatment. Additionally, in the case a patient is transferred to one of our area hospitals, the Nephrology Team from Metropolitan Dialysis goes with them. We have the unique commitment to staying involved in our patient’s care in every way. This is just one more aspect that sets us above and beyond any other dialysis clinic in the area.
Patients receive the lowest nurse to patient ratio in the area. Most dialysis clinics have a seven nurse to one patient ratio during treatment. At Metropolitan Dialysis Clinics, the greatest nurse to patient ratio we allow is four to one, ensuring our patients receive the highest quality in care available.
Dr. Hatipoglu has had a commitment to helping patients live the best quality of life possible since the beginning. Because of his compassion and commitment, he has created the best dialysis schedule available. At Metropolitan Dialysis Clinics, patients are no longer required to come in on Saturdays or Sunday. Our schedules are exclusively during weekdays. That does not mean our offices are not open for your convenience. Our extended hours, 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, stand out from our competition. Because we have eight clinics, in your location areas, we can create the easiest, best options for anyone requiring our services.
