When love becomes a full-time job with no days off đ
A powerful piece in The New York Times by Michelle Cottle and Vishakha Darbha captures what so many families are living every day: caring for an aging parent or loved one can change a familyâs life forever. As Americans live longer, more families are stepping in to manage memory loss, doctor visits, and daily careâoften while juggling jobs, children, and financial stress. Too many caregivers feel exhausted, worried, and alone, especially because our health care system wasnât built with them in mind.
For families caring for someone with Alzheimerâs or another form of dementia, the strain can grow heavier by the day. Caregivers describe lost sleep, isolation, and the heartbreak of watching someone they love slowly change. Even small tasks can feel overwhelmingâand many say they never expected how lonely this journey could be.
