He then joined his father in a specialty practice with a focus on dental implant rehabilitation. In 2012 Dr Moussa started a fellowship program in periodontics at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio. He then persued a Masters degree in periodontics and joined the residency program at CWRU. Recognizing the importance of a sound understanding of prosthodontics in a surgical practice, Dr Moussa joined the fellowship program at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently maintains a full time position at LSU with focus on complex restorative dental implant treatment. He also maintains a part time private practice position at The Perioclinic. Dr Moussa has lectured nationally and internationally on topics that include; Hard and soft tissue augmentation around implants, perio-plastic surgery, immediate implants, osseodensification and crown lengthening.

⭕️ Happy Monday my friends ⭕️
Sharing a bread and butter SOCKETSHIELD case today.
When it comes to preparation and armamentarium, I don’t find conventional burs only to be sufficient. Here you see me incorporating a few drills from the PET kit that was designed by
I find these drills to be very useful especially in teeth that have longer roots.
Photos show up to provisional removal at 3 months. Notice COMPLETE maintenance of ridge form.

⭕️ PRESERVATION meets REGENERATION ⭕️
Here’s a case back from 2017 that portrays exactly what it means to incorporate both treatment philosophies in patient care.
Patient presented back in 2017 with a vertical root fracture on the palatal aspect.
Case was managed using a SOCKET SHIELD and palatal GBR using a PTFE membrane.
Photos are self explanatory showing the steps of treatment.
Last photo shows an 8.5 YEAR FOLLOW-U.
MORAL OF THE STORY - PARTIAL EXTRACTION THERAPY (PET) IS TRULY THE GOLD STANDARD, IMHO.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far 🙏

⭕️ Managing IMPLANT PROXIMITY ISSUES using SOCKET SHIELD procedure ⭕️
Happy Friday friends 🙏
This patient presented with a failing right central incisor. Right lateral incisor is an implant that is oversized and misplaced too close to the central. Case managed with:
1️⃣ Partial extraction therapy to maintain a C shaped Socket Shield
2️⃣ Immediate implant placement aiming to position osteotomy away from existing implant in the lateral incisor
3️⃣ Immediate loading and provisional to maintain soft tissue contours
Photo show final soft tissue healing and restoration. Notice maintenance is INTER-IMPLANT PAPILLA AND BONE which is crucial for an esthetic result.

⭕️Stage one for this esthetic zone reconstruction⭕️
Patient presents with a moderate/severe HORIZONTAL RIDGE DEFICIENCY. Case managed with a GBR approach using FDBA covered with a collagen membrane stabilized with Glycolon sutures.
This is all then wrapped up with PRF.
Photos show re-entry at 6 months showing horizontal bone gain and implant placement.
Next up..soft tissue management at second stage surgery.
Happy Friday y’all✌️

⭕️ The stages of SOFT TISSUE MANAGEMENT in the ESTHETIC ZONE ⭕️
IMHO, the ROTATED PALATAL PEDICLE is one of the most predictable and versatile techniques to use in the anterior maxilla.
1️⃣ Palatal pedicle for GBR coverage and tissue augmentation
2️⃣ Implant placement + palatal pedicle for vertical and horizontal tissue augmentation
3️⃣ Frenectomy + punch exposure
4️⃣ Provisionalization

⭕️ A little ROOT COVERAGE on this fine Friday ⭕️
When it comes to root coverage, I still have a big spot in my tool box for Coronally Advanced Flaps (CAF).
In this case we did:
🔷 CAF design without any vertical releasing incisions
🔷 De-epithelialized FGG harvest
🔷 CTG and flap sutured independently
Photos show up to healing at 16 days post-op

⭕️ SOFT TISSUE AUGMENTATION IN THE ESTHETIC ZONE ⭕️
So here’s a case that shows the SOFT TISSUE ISSUES that we run in to POST BONE AUGMENTATION.
In this case we had a few problems:
❌ A coronally displaced mucogingival junction
❌ Lack of labial attached gingiva
❌ Vertical soft tissue defect
Here’s what we did to manage the soft tissue at second stage surgery:
🛑 Vestibuloplasty to reposition the mucogingival junction
🛑 Additional tissue peeling for graft vasculature
🛑 Sub-epithelial CTG sutured as an FGG the correct level
🛑 Delayed provisional and soft tissue development
Photos show up to final soft tissue maturation following provisionals ✌️

⭕️ PRESERVATION MEETS REGENERATION ⭕️
Here’s a case that shows exactly the type of treatment philosophies .davidattia and I will be sharing at our December course in Dallas,Tx.
✔️ Keep the good and lose the bad ❌
🔷 Socket shields utilized
🔷 Apicoectomy to remove infected apices through esthetic buccal flap
🔷 GBR to repair fenestration defects using Ossix plus from .us and FDBS from
🔷 Proper suturing of esthetic buccal flap
🔷 Immediate implant placement and provisionalization
Photos show up to final soft tissue healing.

⭕️ PALATAL HARVESTING ⭕️
We all know the most painful part of AUTOGENOUS SOFT TISSUE procedures is the healing of the PALATAL HARVEST site.
It’s always been a goal for me to find less painful areas to harvest and/or to find ways to minimize pain after palatal harvest.
Most recently I was introduced to this technique from my good friends and mentor
1️⃣ Harvest of an FGG from the palate
2️⃣ FGG is de-epithelialized maintaining the integrity of the epithelium
3️⃣ Epithelium is placed back over the harvest site
4️⃣ Peri-acryl used to immobilize the epithelium over the harvest site
Photos show uneventful healing at two weeks. This patient actually had zero pain from the palate !

In 2012 Dr Moussa joined the periodontics fellowship program at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio. Afterwards, he pursued a Masters degree in periodontics and joined the residency program at CWRU.

Recognizing the importance of sound prosthetic principles in a surgical practice, Dr Moussa commenced the fellowship program at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Throughout the fellowship Dr Moussa focused his efforts on gaining experience in dental implant prosthodontics, and managing complex restorative cases.

Currently Dr Moussa maintains a full time private practice position in New Orleans, Louisiana. His practice is limited to periodontics and dental implant surgery.
