⭕️ Internal Vs External BONE AUGMENTATION ⭕️
Happy Friday my friends,
When it comes to BONE GRAFTING, we all tend to focus on the MATERIALS & TECHNIQUE. While in reality the DIAGNOSTICS & DEFECT MORPHOLOGY may make or break our procedure.
This patient presented with a vertical root fracture on the upper left canine with complete buccal bone dehiscence.
Here’s what we did:
1️⃣ Full tooth extraction
2️⃣ Implant placement engaging the palatal bone and keeping the implant within the confines of the alveolar housing
3️⃣ Implant is completely exposed on the buccal but in a subcrestal position palatally
4️⃣ GBR using FDBA and a properly stabilized collagen membrane using vertical and horizontal strapping sutures
5️⃣ Flap advancement and primary closure
In essence, we are much more successful in building bone internal to the confines of the alveolar than external to it. Especially when utilizing restorable membranes.
Hoping everyone has a great weekend ahead 😊🙏
