❤️💕 Weekend Valentine’s Day classes! 💕❤️

Join Rachel and Nicole, owners of Backyartists Art Studio, for a Valentine’s Day-themed sensory play and process art class. We’ll celebrate love, kindness, and creativity through hands-on, process-focused activities.

Our focus is on the process rather than the product, encouraging creativity, self-expression, and sensory exploration. Each class is designed to support fine motor skills, cognitive development, and confidence—all while having fun and embracing the beauty of the season.

Ideal for ages: 1.5–5 years, with a caregiver present
Duration: 45 minutes
Location: Backyartists Art Studio- 8 Medford Street, Arlington Center

New year, (and some) new faces! Our first Messy Minis class of 2026 was filled with so much joy! Lots of giggles, clapping, chatter, and discovery 😊 Today, we had a group of one-year-olds who enjoyed all the provocations - from sink and float exploration to playing peak-a-boo in a pile of scarves. Such a fun time with this group today!

Children in Sensory Fun classes (18 months-5 years) were welcomed into a winter wonderland this week! We had instant snow (feels like real snow!!) with trucks for plowing, tin foil covered tables and different tools for creating snowy day scenes, and blue kinetic sand with fake ice cubes, trucks, and blocks for molding.

Our Afternoon Art Explorers (K-2nd graders) were excited to get back into the studio this week! We began with raised salt paintings, where children created a design with glue, poured salt on top, and then used watercolors to gently add color. This is a really fun and easy project to try at home too!

After they had finished their paintings, they were excited to dig into the sensory stations available throughout the studio. They made “snow pancakes” with instant snow and had fun serving them up to each other and to us. They also used kinetic sand and trucks and painted at the easel texture wall. We can’t wait for a fun session of creating together!

2025 was quite the year! We can’t wait for more exploration, discoveries, and friendships in 2026! Happy New Year from Backyartists!

Last Monday was our last Messy Minis class of 2025. The Littles were super busy interacting with the provocations and one another. Together, we sang of our favorite songs, and shared smiles and laughter under the parachute!

The adults reminisced on the semester and how much each child has grown and developed since the start.

It has been such a joyful experience facilitating this class every Monday, and I cannot wait to see everyone again in 2026!!

Our Christmas themed party last weekend was a jolly good time! Children cooked lots of pretend cookies with gingerbread scented play dough and festive loose parts, decorated wood slice ornaments to take home, and played with arctic themed “instant snow” sensory bins (no pics of this!! Whoops!). They also made lots of fun buildings with magnatiles, bells, and tea lights. What a great way to kick off the holiday season!

During our Hanukkah themed party, children pretended to fry up latkes and sufganiyot with play dough and loose parts. They used red gems as the jelly filling for sufganiyot, white loose parts as sour cream for latkes, and yellow loose parts as applesauce for latkes. The last photo shows the inspiration pictures we had displayed. We also had a variety of real menorahs to look at while they created their own out of play dough, spools, tea lights, and real Hanukkah candles. Such a fun way to celebrate!
