Over the weekend I had the honor and privilege to attend a seminar given by 2 legends in our profession, Dr. Terry Yochum and his daughter Dr. Alicia Yochum . The Massachusetts Chiropractic Society put this seminar together.
There were hundreds of Chiropractors from all over New England in attendance.
My biggest takeaway was way back in the day we were taught that a certain condition called a “ Spondylolisthesis” ( a stress fracture where the vertebral body has slipped forward ) in a young athlete meant that the athlete could never play contact sports again. This has been proven to be 💯 wrong. With the advancement of MRI , we can determine if the stress fracture is active or healed.
We are fully equipped in our office to take x-rays. If an MRI is necessary, we are able to order one. Certain insurance plans do require the P*P to order the MRI. With the information from our examination, X-ray and possibly MRI we can properly treat young athletes with persistent back pain.
