Art Therapy in Individual Counseling and Group Support:

In my work I see individuals or families who are exploring issues such as loss, depression, anxiety, life transitions, abuse and trauma. I draw on a wide variety of theories: Client-centered, Existential, and Jungian psychology and combine them in a creative way in my practice to provide an integrative approach which is educational, solution-oriented and transformational. I am a practicing artist and use techniques and theories which resonate with the client to illuminate a path to change & healing through creativity. Some of the tools I use in my work are sand tray, all forms of art making, journaling, goal setting, relaxation techniques, guided visualizations, and creative writing, stress reduction techniques, reframing, and mindfulness meditation techniques. My undergraduate degree is in social work and I completed my masters degree in art therapy and counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a registered and board certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). I have spent nearly 30 years working in the mental health field and for the last five years have held a position as a program director at HopeWest in Grand Junction, Colorado. I spent seven years developing a part-time private practice at ArtLight Therapy & Studios. I deeply love the work of meeting people where they are and companioning them into work that enables a richer, more peaceful life.
