Dr. Bellman: my eyebrows are thinning and I don’t know what to do. Is there anything that can help re-grow my eyebrow hair ?
Answer: there are several topical medications both over the counter and by prescription, that can be used daily on the eyebrows to stimulate new hair re growth. As we age, our eyebrows tend to get thinner. There are also skin conditions such as alopecia areata, although less common, that can cause hair loss on the eyebrows. This can be diagnosed by a dermatologist.

Dr. Bellman: Help! I got way too much sun and forgot to apply sunblock. What do I do?
A: Aloe is very soothing as is Sarna Lotion ( over the counter). Aveeno powdered baths are also calming on the skin in warm water. It takes 48 hours to start to feel better.

Is it good for your skin to use sugar or salt scrubs daily?
A: No. Exfoliating your skin daily removes the natural skin barrier that protects your skin. It interferes with the skins microbiome and natural defenses. Sometimes, the skin can get very dehydrated and develop dry spots. It’s ok to use them a few times a month.

Dr Bellman: I just noticed a new bald patch on top of my head. It does not bother me, but I am worried. What do I do?

Answer: This is called Alopecia Areata. There are many different treatments available for it and most of the time the hair does grow back. You will likely require topical prescription medications.

Lipomas: benign fatty growths that tend to occur around the neck and back, but can occur anywhere. In the past, surgical removal was the gold standard. Today, we can inject them with fat dissolving liquid in a few treatments. It can melt them down to a much smaller size and flatten them out nicely ! Call today for a consultation for Kybella.

Q: Dr. Bellman, I’m losing my hair. It’s shedding everyday.....I see hair on my pillow and shower drain. What do I do?

A: You need a work up. It’s important to check some labs to see if you are anemic or have thyroid abnormalities. I would need to examine your scalp and hair roots. Some times a person can experience a telogen effluvium which occurs after an illness, a fever, a surgery or childbirth.

Q: Dr. Bellman: my hair is always oily even though I was it every day. What should I do ?
A: Try to use a clarifying shampoo or a shampoo that states it is for oily hair on the bottle. When washing your hair, make sure you massage and wash your scalp for several minutes with a good lather.Rinse thoroughly and wash twice. Dry shampoo sprays and powders help absorb oil as well.
