We live in a chaotic world. Our mind often follows suit and is chaotic. That is because we are constantly externally focused. Practicing dharma is to cultivate an internal focus. Internal focus is like a tell-tale on a boat indicating the direction of the wind. An internal focus, looking inward at your mind and emotions allows you to monitor the state of your emotions and thoughts. When your emotions and thoughts become unruly, apply antidotes. For example, when you notice jealousy, remind yourself that appreciation is healthier and happier. When you notice you are putting yourself down, remind yourself that healthy self-confidence putting no one down is healthier and happier. When you notice anger, remind yourself that patience is healthier and happier. With anger, it is best to notice early signs, like irritability, fear, tension in the muscles, heart palpitations, faster breathing, etc. At this time apply a method. Imagine your early anger transforms into a cloud that drifts and completely dissolves along with your early anger. This will not work the first time. With persistence it will work. Never give up!
