Joaquin was diagnosed with scoliosis and is being treated with a brace. We just loved the patriotic design of his brace during this 4th of July weekend. Keep up the great work Joaquin, so proud of you.

Not every person who has scoliosis needs to be treated, but when curves are measured between 25 and 40 degrees and a child still has significant growth left, the decision is made to proceed with bracing. Several research studies show that bracing for scoliosis can keep spinal curves from growing large enough to require surgery by the time a child is done growing. A brace is worn until the spine stops growing, the timing varies from person to person. Your doctor checks the brace and the status of growth every 4-6 months.
