Advocacy Network on Disabilities

Advocacy Network on Disabilities Since 1972, Miami-Dade County's lead agency to plan, provide, and coordinate services to individuals. Working for a world where we all belong

About the Advocacy Network with Disabilities

THE ADVOCACY NETWORK ON DISABILITIES champions the rights of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities by promoting inclusion, providing services, and advancing systems change. Long before “collaboration” and “partnering” were buzz words, these principles were the foundation upon which The Advocacy Network on Disabilities was founded. Since its beginnings as a subcommittee of South Florida's Health Planning Council in the early 1970s, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities has been a coalition of individuals with disabilities; family members; advocates; community service providers; and other public, private and governmental organizations. With an original focus on individuals with developmental disabilities, today the organization also provides supports and services to individuals with physical, sensory and other disabilities. Our mission is simple: “In partnership with people with disabilities and their families, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities advocates, coordinates and provides supports and services.”

Through facilitating community collaboration, fostering self-advocacy, and promoting acceptance, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities goals include:

1) Helping individuals identify and access supports and services;

2) Bringing unmet needs to the attention of decision-makers and advocating for change;

3) Providing expertise about best practices and specialized resources; and

4) Conducting outreach, education, and professional development activities. The Advocacy Network on Disabilities has a proven track record of excellence. Since 1975, its funders have continuously found the organization in compliance with both programmatic and administrative contract requirements. Consumer Satisfaction Surveys indicate that 96% of respondents are satisfied with the help they receive from us.

🚍✨ Today marks an exciting milestone for inclusion in Miami-Dade!

A few weeks ago, our team was invited by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works to tour and provide accessibility feedback on the new Coral Reef Drive Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Station — part of the new Metro Express line.

We’re proud to see our community’s input reflected in the design of this state-of-the-art facility, featuring accessible boarding, shaded seating, real-time digital signage, and safety upgrades for all riders.

🤝 Partnerships like these remind us that when inclusion is built into every step of the process, everyone moves forward together.

🎉 We are honored to stand with the Miami‑Dade County Commission in celebrating October as Disability Employment Awareness Month!
A special thank you to Commissioner Raquel Regalado for her leadership and advocacy, and for presenting our President & CEO, Ire Diaz, with a plaque in recognition of our work advancing employment opportunities for people of all abilities.
At the Advocacy Network on Disabilities, we believe in an inclusive workforce where every talent counts. As we mark this month, let’s DOUBLE DOWN on creating jobs, support, and pathways for individuals with disabilities — because when EVERYONE thrives, we all succeed.

🎗️ Today is White Cane Safety Day
The white cane is more than a tool — it is a powerful symbol of independence, mobility, and inclusion.
Since 1964, this day has helped amplify the voices of people who are blind or visually impaired and assert their right to move through the world confidently and safely.
✅ Here’s how you can help:
• Always yield right-of-way to someone using a white cane
• Keep sidewalks, pathways, and entrances free of obstacles
• Don’t grab or steer — ask, “Would you like help?” and respect their autonomy
• Share this post and use hashtag to spread awareness
When we all move together with respect and understanding, we help build a more accessible world.
