๐ฉ๐ผโโ๏ธ Anatomy of the Philtrum
The philtrum (Greek: philtron = love potion is a vertical groove in the midline portion of the upper lip bordered by two lateral ridges or pillars. It lies between the base of the nose (subnasale) and the vermilion border (labiale superius), which is also designated as what we refer to as the ๐ nasolabial distance.
The lower end of the groove and the ridges form the central portion of the Cupid's bow of the vermilion border ๐ ๐
๐ Injectors often reference โshortening the ergotridโ โincreasing vertical heightโ and โshortening the upper lipโ to refer to an aesthetic objective that can be achieved via a variety of modalities: Fillers, Dysport and Surgery.

๐ฉ๐ผโโ๏ธ: Because a shorter upper lip is considered to be a more youthful feature. Shortening the distance between the upper lip ๐ and the nose ๐. When we are working with dermal fillers to create a beautiful lip, we are addressing a variety of visual cues around the mouth that contribute to the overall result. The Philtrum, ergotrid, vermillion border, oral commissures, cupids bow etc are among the list of features we assess to create beautiful lips. Often times, this requires multiple sessions to adequately address the various contributing factors that culminate into a โwowโ result.
