Mariposas Holistic began in 2014 as a path to help people heal their trauma and stress. The business was founded by Paty โ€œMariposaโ€ Hernandez-Montoya who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Trauma Therapist, and Usui Reiki Master/Teacher. She birthed this business out of her own grief and trauma following the deaths of her sister, mother, and boyfriend who all passed within 5 years. Since 2021 s

he has shifted teaching Reiki and stress reduction coaching to include a trauma-informed perspective. She uses her gifts to assist people with a history of trauma through complementary modalities and with a self-care focus to reduce stress naturally. Reiki is a Japanese word that means universal life energy and is a form of energy healing that works to restore balance and promote well-being through a spiritual lens. Reiki helps to reduce stress, promote relaxation, reduce pain, and support healing on all levels โ€“ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Reiki and holistic healing promote a sense of well-being, balance, and harmony in the body, mind, and spirit. It can help to reduce stress, bring clarity and focus, and support the bodyโ€™s natural ability to heal itself.

Since last year, Iโ€™ve begun to offer integration Zoom calls 1โ€“2 weeks after any retreat I facilitate. It gives participants a chance to check in, share their struggles and breakthroughs, and feel supported as they continue processing what opened during our time together. Happy Earth Day!

A day to remember to care for your external home.

The home that encompasses other life beings, weather, and much more.

When we care for the Earth, we care for one another and ourselves.

Connecting to the earth and sending Reiki is one of my daily practices.

This morning I was invited by Ansley, a Blue Health Facilitator to spend time by the water.

We meditated, walked mindfully, and connected with one another!

It was beautiful!

Reiki and nature is one of the themes weโ€™ll be discussing and practicing this Saturday for the Reiki Reawakening Retreat!

Yesterday afternoon we were contacted by to install are new impact windows today.

It was quite last minute yet it was able to happen.

Grateful that space was available for two virtual client sessions as our apartment is a mess!

Grateful for my husband who is staying home while the work is being completed so I can work.

Excited to have impact windows which will reduce our electricity, noise pollution, and is a complete upgrade from our current windows which are over 40 years old.

No matter how much you plan, external factors may cause you to shift. How you respond to those factors depends on you!

Reiki is my go to grounding resource as I can use it anytime and anywhere.

Today is 4/20, and while many people know it as a cannabis holiday, its origin actually traces back to a group of California teens in the early 1970s known as โ€œthe Waldos,โ€ who used โ€œ420โ€ as a meeting code. Over time, that phrase spread far beyond them and became part of cannabis culture around the world. (420 Waldos)

But beyond the jokes, merch, and cultural references, there is also an important educational conversation to have about medical ma*****na.
Cannabis contains compounds called cannabinoids, including THC, which is impairing and produces a high, and CBD, which is not impairing on its own.
Research suggests cannabis or cannabinoids may help with some conditions and symptoms, including certain rare forms of epilepsy, chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting, HIV/AIDS-related appetite loss, and in some cases modest symptom relief for chronic pain or multiple sclerosis. At the same time, cannabis is not risk-free, and the evidence is still limited for many other uses. (NCCIH)

It is also important to remember that โ€œmedicalโ€ does not automatically mean harmless. Cannabis can affect memory, attention, coordination, decision-making, and reaction time. Smoking cannabis can also harm lung tissue, and frequent use is linked to higher risks for some mental health problems in certain people. (CDC)

So today, Iโ€™m holding both truths:
there is a cultural history here,
and there is also a need for informed, thoughtful, compassionate education.

As we come to the last day to register for the Reiki Reawakening Retreat, I keep returning to this: healing asks us to stay awake, curious, and honest about what supports the body, what supports the nervous system, and what true care really looks like.

Recently, I was invited to support a group of people impacted by the sudden death of a colleague. I held space for them to share their thoughts, grief, and emotions in a way that felt safe and free of judgment.

Many of us were taught that winter is the hardest emotional season due to darker times and isolation. But that is not always what the data shows.

Spring and summer can carry some of the highest rates of su***de, because sometimes the hardest thing in the world is suffering quietly while everything around you looks bright, alive, and full of joy.

I know that feeling. It can be much harder to get through the day.
You might know it too.
