These results have not been published since two phase III trials are still ongoing at University of Chicago and the data was leaked. Nevertheless, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine 7 days ago already showed 68% of patients (most of them severe cases) treated with Remdesevir with compassionate use improved. So, there is progress.

The outcomes in patients at a Chicago hospital offer only a snapshot of remdesivir’s effectiveness, but are the first clinical data to surface to date.

This is interesting and indeed could be a game changer. However, a positive test only predicted amyloid positive status in cognitively normal individuals. The study (according to the Neurology green journal) concludes the results "can be used to screen cognitively normal individuals for brain amyloidosis". This is tricky since screening a person with no memory loss for Alzheimer's could have negative consequences for those individuals because there is no effective therapy to slow progression of the disease. However, this blood test could be a useful screening tool for early memory loss and thus, avoid expensive imaging studies. Larger studies are needed.

When combined with age and APOE ε4 status, the blood test is 94% accurate in detecting brain amyloidosis and may be a "game changer" for the field.
