American Airlines has announced a $1 billion investment to expand Concourse D at Miami International Airport (MIA) — the airline’s largest hub connecting the U.S. with Latin America and the Caribbean.

The project will build a new three-level concourse extension with 17 modern aircraft gates, designed to accommodate larger planes and eliminate outdoor boarding areas. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with completion targeted around 2030.

The expansion will also bring new dining options, retail spaces, upgraded baggage systems, and easier international connections, significantly improving the passenger experience.

With Miami continuing to grow as a global tourism and business hub, this investment highlights the city’s importance in international travel and commerce.

Construction is rapidly progressing on Okan Tower, the striking mixed-use skyscraper rising at 555 North Miami Avenue in Downtown Miami. Crews are now approaching the 50-story milestone, marking another major step in the tower’s vertical construction.

Once completed, the tower will reach approximately 902 feet and 70 stories, making it one of the tallest buildings in Miami and a dramatic new addition to the city’s skyline.

Designed by Behar Font & Partners and developed by Okan Group, the project will feature a mix of luxury residences, hospitality, and office space. The building will include:

• A 316-key Hilton Miami Bayfront Hotel
• 236 condo-hotel residences managed by Hilton
• 163 private Sky Residences
• Class-A office space and over 80,000 sq ft of amenities

Inspired by the shape of a tulip, the tower’s curved glass design reflects the Turkish roots of its developer and will create a distinctive silhouette on the Downtown skyline.

The project broke ground in 2022 and is currently expected to be completed around 2027.
