Modoc Nation Behavioral Health

Modoc Nation Behavioral Health Modoc Nation Behavioral Health offers outpatient counseling, psychiatric prescribing, and outreach.

The Modoc Healing House offers a trauma informed approach to counseling and support to all children and families who are survivors of abuse and traumatic experiences. We provide services to youth (Native and Non-Native) ages 5 to 18 years old with a focus on traumatized youth in Ottawa County and surrounding areas. The program also screens/assesses the needs of youth and families to address overall wellbeing and identify gaps in service within our community. We believe that we are stronger when our community works together to serve those in need. TREATMENT: Through our outpatient mental health program and social services we treat a broad range of issues, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, AD/HD, family dysfunction, substance abuse, social skills, grief & loss. We utilize evidence-based models, such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Play Therapy, in addition to relevant experience-based activities like Equine-Assisted Mental Health and Outdoor Therapy. SERVICES: Screening & Assessment, Individual Counseling, Family Counseling, Group Therapy, Equine Therapy, Peer Support Groups, Case Management, and Life Skills Coaching.

*We accept SoonerCare (Title 19) and have additional funding for services through grant funding for uninsured youth.

Developing the right skills and mindset is key to raising resilient kids. Try the following tips ⬇️

• Teach Problem-Solving 👩‍🏫: Guide them through small challenges (e.g., puzzles, sharing) rather than solving for them; ask, "What could we try next?"
• Cultivate a Growth Mindset 🙌: Praise effort ("You worked so hard!") more than innate ability ("You're so smart!")
• Encourage Healthy Risks 🥾: Allow age-appropriate freedom to explore and fail safely, building confidence in their abilities
• Promote Self-Regulation🧘: Teach deep breathing, mindfulness, and how to identify and name feelings

Last week the Hope Ranch program hosted and participated in the EquiLateral: The Equine Assisted EMDR Protocol (EA-EMDR) training with founder Sarah Jenkins, LPC. This evidence-based model supports individuals healing from complex trauma through the support of certified EMDR therapists, equine specialists, and horse partners.

We are excited to now offer this profound and unique intervention to our clients!

A special thank you to Southern Plains Tribal Health Board for supporting this training! 🫶

Substance use and mental health challenges often develop from a combination of factors. Understanding these risks can help with prevention and early support.

Having risk factors does NOT mean someone will develop a substance misuse disorder or mental illness. Awareness, support, and early intervention can make a difference! Do you or someone you love need support? Call Lost River at 918-303-5433.
