The American Academy of Ophthalmology is reminding families to keep eye safety in mind this holiday season. Since 1 in 10 toy-related ER visits involves an eye injury, it’s best to skip gifts that fire projectile, like crossbows or BB guns, and anything with sharp edges. They also recommend choosing toys that give kids a break from screens.

Ophthalmologist recommended alternatives include:

- Fun arts & crafts kits

- Active toys like bikes, roller skates, or sports gear

- Classic games such as Guess Who? Scrabble, or Uno
