It’s difficult to describe the reality of saying goodbye to a parent. This Sat., March 8th, at 12:55 pm, my warrior of a mom passed. Everyone knew her as a kind-hearted woman who always opened her doors to anyone who needed family. She was always the light at a party, cracking jokes, dancing & beaming in social settings. I believe my sister & I inherited her love of socializing—the ultimate host & delicious cook, including hangover sancochos or breakfast the following day. I can speak continuously of the joy she brought & shared, but not everyone knows of her struggles. She came from Colombia to succeed as best possible with a family. She worked tirelessly. She sacrificed so much to ensure we had everything this country offered. Mom had a heart valve replaced almost 20 years ago. Her 1st stroke occurred Oct. 2022 & the 2nd in Feb. of 2024. The heart valve was leaking & starting to create fluids in her lungs. She was first hospitalized during Christmas & since then, two more times until February of this year when, after many vigorous cardiologist opinions, tests & attempts, they confirmed they could not replace her valve. Mom was released & hospice began per her wishes at home. She put up a good fight shy of a month & now she is finally resting, in peace with no more pain. Thank you for your support, condolences & well wishes. THANK YOU to my sister for being the best nurse/caregiver & light transitioner in these last 8.5 months since I relocated. Mom, we will look out for one another, & remember you as you lived, not merely how you suffered. Thank you, familia, for all your help during this period. I am beyond blessed for such a fantastic support unit/family. RIP mom, your family & granddaughter await your arrival.
