What are you doing for wellness today?

We know that going once a year to the gym won't make us fit, and neither will having one healthy meal once in a blue moon make us healthy.

Wellness care for our body, mind, and spirit is not a "once-a-year-for-my-birthday-or-for-my-holiday" kind of luxury but a regular discipline... just like brushing your teeth, bathing, or getting downtime with friends and family every week. Wellness of body, mind, and spirit can take many forms: a full body massage every other week, a 5-10 minute morning stretch, a group yoga class once a week a reflection on gratitude every night before bed, and acupuncture tune-up once a month, a wind-down stroll every evening... A new study from Stanford University compared different stress reduction techniques (each was done five minutes a day for a month): mindfulness meditation and three types of breathwork (cyclic sighing, with its greater focus on exhaling; box breathing, where inhaling and holding are done for an equal time; and one focusing on longer inhalation). They found that all three types of breathwork had a faster, more positive impact on stress and physiology than mindfulness meditation. Cyclic sighing proved the overall “winner,” with a significantly more positive impact on stress, mood, and resting breathing rate (results which lasted throughout the day).
