Can we stop adding protein to everything? The other day, somebody asked me if I think people are over consuming protein. It’s a tough answer because they’re still a huge population. That’s under consuming protein, but people are protein obsessed and recommend recommendations are definitely too high in many scenarios and this is straight trash.

Today’s lab lesson is bilirubin.
* This is for educational purposes only, and should not be used for medical advice.*
Bilirubin can serve as an antioxidant and your body and also “take out trash” from your red blood cells. Which means there’s two ways we may see elevated Bilirubin that may not be cause for alarm. As always you need to know your athletes health history and rule out any bigger issues with your liver or gallbladder but understanding the biochemistry of how your body uses or creates specific lab markers helps us optimize our elite performers.
Have you ever seen elevated bilirubin in a elite athlete or client ?

Can I put creatine in my coffee? Technically yes, but not too hot!!! Creatine will break down around 145 degrees .

Ideally we would like it to stay below 140 degrees and most coffee is served at 190 degrees. If you are making coffee at home I’d suggest keeping the water temp around 140 to assure that your creatine is not breaking down to creatinine before you drink it .

Ideally you should put your creatine in a different drink something that is not so hot but if you’re actually going to take it in regularly is putting in your coffee then as I always say consistency is better than nothing. Or go for a matcha instead!

We’ve been on a world wide mission. The past year I’ve spent more time traveling than in the US from skiing in Japan to wineries in Tuscany, F1 in Monaco and Italy, beaches in Sicily, dinners in Paris and months in Spain…..your girl is focused.

Finding somebody to enjoy life with should be easy. No kids, successful career, can do whatever I want whenever I want. But it’s the hardest thing to accomplish that I’ve ever set my mind to.
We will keep looking đź‘€

We have lost the plot!!! The simplest things in life such as a day at the beach, vitamin D, a walk in the sand, meditation and eating simple but good quality food is the real 🔑 to longevity 🧬

Why do we often see elevated AST and ALT in high performers and athletes?
* This is for educational purposes, only not medical advice*
Both are considered liver enzymes and they measure amino acid and cellular breakdown. Your muscles are made up of amino acids, when we breakdown and rebuild muscle you will have a breakdown of amino acids and waste products filtering through your liver.
In most cases it’s not cause for alarm but as always, we do need to rule out any larger medical issues. I always check GGT as a back up marker for liver enzymes.
