Nicklaus Children's Hospital

Nicklaus Children's Hospital Nicklaus Children's Hospital is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children, with more than 700 attending physicians. News.

When it comes to healthcare, adults and children have completely different needs. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital focuses solely on the care of children. If your child ever needs specialty care, Nicklaus Children's is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine. Whether you come for an appointment, or your child is brought in by our LifeFlight® Critical Care Transport service, you can rest assured that no other facility in the region has more pediatric subspecialties available to collaborate in the care of children. In fact, since 2008 many of our programs have been ranked among the best in the nation by U.S.News & World Report in its listings of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.” In 2011-2012, Nicklaus Children's Hospital was the only Florida hospital ranked in all subspecialty categories surveyed by U.S. What’s more, every aspect of the care program is designed with children in mind, from our child- and-family friendly facilities to care providers who explain medical treatment in language children can understand. Additionally, our network of outpatient centers is extensive. No matter where you are, a Nicklaus Children's Hospital facility is nearby. It’s no wonder we’re the region’s pediatric care leader.

We are kicking-off Heart Month with an amazing testimonial from Debbi Hixon!

Debbi Hixon, Broward County Public Schools Board Chair, recalls the extraordinary care her son Corey received at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Corey was airlifted from Plantation to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital shortly after birth, as he was born missing the left side of his heart. Over the years, Corey underwent nine open-heart surgeries by the age of 8, with the expert team at Nicklaus Children’s by his side every step of the way.

Debbi and her family are deeply grateful for the compassionate care and expertise that Nicklaus Children’s provided, helping Corey through his complex medical journey. Their story is a powerful reminder of the hospital’s commitment to providing hope and healing to families in need.

Not feeling well, Megan’s mom took her to a local urgent care where bloodwork showed abnormal readings and a concern for something greater. Immediately, Megan was admitted to Nicklaus Children’s Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute where Pediatric Hematologist and Oncologist Dr. Guillermo De Angulo diagnosed Megan with Philadelphia Chromosome–like Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Ph-like ALL). At age seven, Megan underwent aggressive cancer treatment that included infusions and chemotherapy and lasted about two years.

Thanks to the expert cancer care Megan received at Nicklaus Children’s, she is now cancer free and recently started middle school. She hopes to one day be a nurse and care for others the way she was cared for.

As part of our 75 Years of Hope — Voices from Our Community video series, today, we share Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s family journey.

Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz reflects on the care her daughter Rebecca received at the Nicklaus Children’s Dan Marino Outpatient Center. When Rebecca wasn’t hitting her developmental milestones, she began occupational and physical therapy at the center. With the help of the dedicated team, Rebecca was able to gain the strength and skills she needed to walk.

Today, Rebecca is a thriving 26-year-old, and Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz and her family are grateful for the support they received during those early years.
