Reasons Snow Makes Siding Dirty:
Accumulated Debris: Snow collects dirt, pollen, and pollutants from the air or roof. As the snow melts against the siding, it leaves this residue behind.
Moisture and Mold: Snow piled against the house keeps the siding constantly damp, creating an ideal environment for mold, mildew, and algae to develop.
Freeze-Thaw Dirt Infiltration: During the day, snow melts and runs down the siding. At night, this water freezes, expanding into cracks, joints, and behind panels, carrying dirt into, and widening, small gaps.
Ice Dams and Runoff: Melting snow from the roof can create ice dams, forcing dirty water to pool and run down the siding, causing streaks.
Oxidation Exposure: White, chalky, or dirty-looking streaks on vinyl siding can be exacerbated by moisture, which highlights existing oxidation.
