She’s one of our steadiest coworkers. Just as sweet as she is cute. Today the poor girl had to have a tooth pulled. 😢 We are hoping her recovery is smooth and quick. Their well-being is truly just as important to our mission. The herd didn’t sign up to be therapy horses, we asked it of them. So not only do we help 40+ kiddos a week, we have to know and care for our horses. Your donations help us ensure that they get the top-notch care they deserve. That way they can go on bringing hope to kiddos!

On middle school days one might find themselves wearing a hair scrunchie….and like it!🤷🏻‍♀️🐴

Mixing things up sparks all sorts of good conversation. Driving with two ropes vs. leading with one. Walking controlled vs. trotting sort of out of control. The student’s perception gives us lots of info about how they see themselves, their experiences, and other people.

We are so blessed……throughout the year staff and students often have opportunities, in various ways, to donate to our mission. Last week Mr. Tadeo and Ms. Brown from NMS stopped over with a sweet student to present us with a donation check from their staff. We couldn’t provide life changing opportunities without the generosity of so many! Our horses want to thank Northridge Middle School administrators and staff for being part of our team.

It’s important to us that our horses love what they do. We take great care to not expect too much or overuse them to the point of burn out. We will never take for granted that they WANT to run to the gate. The kids feel that relational connection.

What makes our work in the arena powerful is talking and learning the skill, practicing the skill, feeling it, laughing in the midst of hard things, and all the while working together. Today’s lesson - Let it Go……. 🎶 Toss it out the door! Don’t come back to it. Don’t pick it back up. Don’t carry it around any longer. And if you do pick that: anxiety, guilt, shame etc back up - make sure you have people in your life to remind you to toss it again. “It feels good to toss it. I don’t need to keep carrying around the past.” They FEEL it. We laugh, but it helps the idea and the concept STICK!

The horses are always thankful for those who show up on the weekends to feed and care for them. The amount of physical work and commitment that goes into having horses as our partners is frankly often overwhelming. Phil and Cindy Houser, Doug and Julie Whitehead, Naomi Conkle, and Kori Cripe truly need more recognition and thanks than words can express. 🫶🏼
