Being still. Having patience. Being intentional. Recognizing the social cues.

The donkeys are experts at demonstrating when you do or do not make them feel safe and heard. The session did NOT start this way. Lessons learned in the arena translate back to life!

If you know anyone who works in education this is pretty much where we are at this time of year (including our horses)! Put on the festive reindeer antlers - handle the choas of the day - then crash out. For some students they are counting down TO break, for others they are starting to count just how many days they have until they GET TO come back to school.

At our open house last week, a kind gentleman named Lee said he could maybe help us with our painted wooden ornaments. And already the Toymakers of Middlebury have brought and donated wooden horses for our students to paint! We are so thankful for people like Lee who see a need and jump in to use their passions and skills to support us!

Quote from drpernillanathan on instagram. I love this line : They show up when you are ready to level up. If you know nothing about horses or you have been around them for 40 years this holds true in the arena! 🫶🏼 🐴

After a 12 hour day yesterday, Mrs. Cripe is back in the arena today helping kiddos…..even with a broken arm. When kids depend on their time at the barn, our staff makes so many sacrifices no one sees so that our students aren’t disappointed. That’s how impactful our “stable” ground truly is.

I was too busy talking to take many photos. But a huge thanks to Patricia Cross Hochstedler for baking cookies and Tracy LaRoy for donating her talents to bake and beautifully display our delicious cookie spread. Julie Whitehead and friends made sure the horses were extra soft, fluffy, and clean. Amanda Shoup Schutz and Robin Shoup helped make things Christmasy, along with our ever talented Linda Garber. And Cindy Heathman Houser who is always willing to jump in and help if it means she can see her donkeys!

We got to see some students we hadn’t seen in awhile and watch many proudly show their families around. From the smallest, to the tallest, to the sweetest - the smiles were undeniably contagious. That is the gift of the horses!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day special, those who came out to see what we are all about, and those who generously give so that we can continue to make an everlasting impact for years to come.

As the lights go out tonight - our horses and people are tuckered out. But our hearts are so full having the opportunity to share our special space. We got to visit with faithful supporters, have kids show off their favorite horses to their families, and share with new visitors. The generosity and community support fuels our mission. Excited for what 2026 will bring!
