Did you know that the winter blues is actually a condition? It’s called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It’s mainly caused by the lack of sun exposure during the fall and winter which disrupts your circadian rhythm, (your internal clock), affecting the chemicals in your brain, serotonin and melatonin. This change in your mood and sleep, along with the lack of vitamin D, and not being as active leads to those winter blue depressive symptoms. Massage therapy can help relieve those symptoms by increasing your serotonin and dopamine levels, promoting relaxation and improving your sleep to get your circadian rhythm back to normal, while also giving relief from fatigue and muscle tension!
