Special Strides

Special Strides is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives one stride at a time. and fundraising.

Special Strides provides physical and occupational therapy, therapeutic riding, therapeutic driving, and equine facilitated learning in a natural setting on 200 acre Congress Hill Farm. Utilizing the motion and emotion of the horse the therapists are able to make functional changes and improve overall quality of life. Our riding and driving instructors teach riding skills and horsemanship utilizing teaching techniques specific to each individual. Special Strides has an active volunteer program for individuals over the age of 14 who would like to give back to their community throug horse leading,sidewalking. Special Strides is also dedicated to education as a clinical education site for PT and OT programs throughout the country, mentorship of riding instructor candidates, mentorship of new therapists interested in adding hippotherapy treatment principles into their therapy regime.

Through hippotherapy, individuals can develop essential physical skills, including:

Core Muscle Engagement
Riders must engage their core, back, and pelvic muscles to stabilize and maintain posture while on the horse.

Improved Posture and Balance
The dynamic, rhythmic movement of the horse stimulates and strengthens the muscles needed for good posture and balance.
