When I was diagnosed with Early-Stage Breast Cancer last summer, I kept thinking they must have notified the wrong person. Surely this wasn’t something that was happening to me! Through the further testing, preparation for Breast Conserving Surgery to remove the tumor, radiation following the surgery, and the beginning of hormone blocking medication, it still seemed like a dream much of the time.

I embraced Gilda’s Club fully, participating in guided meditation sessions, yoga, counseling, and the Breast Cancer support group. I realized when I sat in on the support group that I had nothing to add to these stories. My story seemed insignificant while listening to the stories of these brave, beautiful, (mostly younger) women who had complications and decisions to face that I felt (and honestly hoped) I would never face.

In a counseling session with Elizabeth, Program Manager at Gilda’s Club, I disclosed my feelings with her. She suggested an Early-Stage Cancer Support Group and low and behold, she got one started.

Hello, everyone. I’m Jeff, and today I want to share something deeply personal about my involvement with Gilda’s Club Wisconsin. As someone who’s been touched by cancer in my own family, I’ve found a profound sense of purpose in supporting this incredible organization. Whether you’re a survivor, a caregiver, or just someone who knows how cancer can upend lives, I hope my story resonates and inspires you to get involved.

My connection to Gilda’s Club starts with a story that’s all too familiar for many families. When I was a sophomore in high school, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was back in the day when resources for patients and their loved ones were scarce—there was no such thing as Gilda’s Club to provide that crucial emotional and social support.

Thankfully, my mom is a fighter. She’s now celebrating over 42 years of survivorship, alive and well. But during those early days, it was tough. She was “gone” for long stretches—surgeries, treatments, hospital stays—that left our family feeling isolated. My father wasn’t the greatest at communicating, so my brother and I often felt like we were stumbling in the dark, unsure of what was happening or how to cope.

This is what community looks like!

We’re deeply grateful for the many family groups, corporate teams, sponsors, and volunteer organizations that sign up to serve as our chefs throughout the year. Your time in the kitchen helps make every other part of the evening possible.d a chance for families to simply exhale together around the table.

Family Night is part of our 10-week session (offered multiple times each year), where a shared meal is followed by support groups for adults and educational programs for kids and teens navigating the emotions and realities of a cancer diagnosis. That time together matters more than words can say.

We’re deeply grateful for the many family groups, corporate teams, sponsors, and volunteer organizations who sign up to serve as our chefs throughout the year. Your time in the kitchen helps make every other part of the evening possible.

A special thank you to the Exact Sciences team pictured here, who regularly show up, roll up their sleeves, and bring both skill and heart to this program. Your consistency and holistic partnership make a lasting impact.

To our corporate partners and event sponsors: Thank you for the ways you invest in this mission. Whether you’re supporting an event, volunteering your time, or doing both, you help strengthen the relationships and experiences that make our programs possible.

Interested in bringing your corporate team, volunteer group, or family in for a small-group opportunity like Family Night Chef? Reach out to Christine Rader at christine@gildasclubwi.org to learn more.

When people choose to serve together, it doesn’t just build teams; it builds community. ♥

This is the perfect time of year for a hike!

Last Friday, 16 Gilda's Club members gathered for "Everyday Adventures: Seasonal Observations Naturalist Guided Hike" at the UW Arboretum. The hike was guided by a UW Arboretum naturalist, who showed the group seasonal highlights including the scents, colors, and textures of early spring.

The group saw the first buds, found s**t of four different species (coyote, deer, rabbit, and turkey), learned about different tree nuts, learned about bluebird boxes, and more.

Thank you to our Giving Tuesday donors for making Everyday Adventures possible in 2026!

One of the most meaningful spaces in our clubhouse is our Resource Area.

Here, you’ll find cozy blankets, hats, and head scarves, support materials for kids and families, educational information and trusted resources, and comfort items that can make a hard day feel just a little bit softer.

Everything is free, and you’re always welcome to take what you need. We also have a supply of wigs and related supplies available at the clubhouse.

If you or someone you know could use a little extra support, our doors are open.

Every time someone walks through our red doors, they’re stepping into a legacy that began with one incredible woman: Gilda Radner.

After her own cancer diagnosis, Gilda dreamed of a place where no one would face cancer alone. That dream became Gilda’s Club. ❤️

She once said:
“Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next.”

That spirit is still at the heart of everything we do by showing up for the unknown, stronger together.
