On Saturday I got to teach an all levels class of 40.
There are challenges to teaching an all levels class. In my training, I was taught to teach to the midline. Make your class challenging enough for seasoned yogis, and make the flow accessible and encouraging for beginners.
As I greeted my students I met a fellow instructor, someone that was recovering from a major surgery, and a few folks that were brand new to yoga (or just getting back into their practice). The rest of the students were somewhere in between.
So how do you teach to the midline? Make everything incremental. The entire practice of yoga is establishing foundations and building from there. Even the most experienced yogi can establish a new foundation or build on their expression of a pose. And by the way, every day, every body, and every practice is different.
Foundations first, and everything will flow from there. π
