The DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Honorees receive a certificate of commemoration, a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, and Cinnabon® cinnamon rolls, one of Patrick’s favorites.

Jennifer consistently goes above and beyond for both patients and staff. On one occasion, when a husband and wife came in to donate blood, Jennifer noticed the wife beginning to feel unwell. Jennifer quickly accompanied them back to their car and brought them snacks to ensure they were okay.
