David was born in Middletown on September 16, 1936. He was a 1954 graduate of Monroe High School, where he met, what would be the love of his life, Shirley Garver. They were married in 1956 and would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on September 8, 2026. He and Shirley always had an open invitation to visit with his son and daughter-in-law in Florida and he was often found by the lake with a fishing pole in his hand. He quit golfing many years ago, but enjoyed riding along with his daughter, Jana, while his son-in-law, Jaimie, played the links. "Papaw" could rarely be kept away from a grandkid's sporting or school event; he was so proud of them.
