James L. Maher Center Life to its fullest. That's our mission. We're about community. Finally, we are so grateful for the support of our community.

From employment support, to creative and recreational activities, to transportation and residential services, we help people with developmental disabilities enjoy life and help to build a more inclusive world. Our Maher Center team supports people with developmental disabilities in envisioning and creating full, happy lives that reflect their individual interests and aspirations. In the process, we enrich life on Aquidneck Island and throughout the East Bay by helping members of our Maher Center family work, volunteer for other nonprofits, participate in civic activities, and contribute in so many ways to the cities and towns in which they live. As we prepare for 401Gives 2026—Rhode Island’s largest day of giving powered by the Rhode Island Foundation—this meaningful investment helps elevate our mission and expand our reach. The Amplifier Grant not only strengthens our campaign, but also amplifies the voices and stories of the individuals we are honored to support every day.

At the James L Maher Center, we are committed to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full, inclusive, and meaningful lives.
