Roots is back for our Spring Session!

Last Wednesday, we kicked off our first week of activities by learning about Judaism— specifically some of the first Jews, beliefs, and traditions.

Participants also learned how the Star of David came to be associated with the religion, and made their own stars!

While presenting at the Warwick Rotary in January, Outreach Coordinator Paula Blumenau met with John Mattera, a long-time volunteer in Warwick.

John said he remembers when he retired in 2019 and one of the first things he did was train with Paula to be a Warwick Friendly Visitor Volunteer; “It was the best choice I ever made. Over the past six years I have made so many wonderful connections to people who needed help in the community. I have loved helping people in my town and have made friends for a lifetime. Volunteer to help neighbors in your town maintain their independence!”

Holocaust Remembrance Day is a reminder of where hatred can lead— and why remembrance, education, and humanity matter immensely. We honor the victims and listen to survivors, committed to remembering the truth so that it is never repeated.

It was a great visit to the Warwick Valley Rotary Club to share information about the Town of Warwick Friendly Visitor Program, Senior Independence Program and Jfs Orange. While there, volunteer John Matteo warmly greeted Paula Blumenau, Outreach and Volunteer Engagement from JFS to tell her that, "Becoming a volunteer for the Friendly Visitor Program was the best decision he has ever made". He went on to share that he "has made amazing friends and has felt connected to his community by helping those older neighbors who want to continue to live independently". The Town Of Warwick partners with Jfs Orange to support neighbors throughout the Town, including the villages of Warwick, Florida, Pine Island and Greenwood Lake.
