Here is a quick way to take action to make sure that our direct support workforce can be sustained

Take Action Now!
Without Direct Care Workers, Michigan’s behavioral health system will collapse. In fact, it’s already beginning to do so.
Let members of the Legislature know you expect them to protect Michigan’s most vulnerable residents by ensuring adequate compensation for the state’s Direct Care Workers. Connecting with your lawmakers only takes seconds.

Her Power, Her Pride! Registration is open! With a middle school event open for the first time!

Are you a high school or middle school age girl (cis, trans, and nonbinary) with a disability looking to take charge of your life? Do you want to learn how to be a leader, advocate for yourself and others, gain confidence in yourself, and meet other teen girls looking for the same? Look no further than Her Power! Her Pride! (Her Power!)

Her Power! is a unique, four-day, three-night program designed for teen girls with disabilities and run by women with disabilities. Our program is built on the best practices of the disability justice community and emerging research in female development. It goes beyond self-esteem programming to provide a venue for real self-empowerment. At Her Power!, you'll learn about disability pride, community, and history.

You'll develop your self-confidence and advocacy skills through various interactive leadership activities, shining your light and showcasing your unique talents. Together we will challenge media and societal messages that tell us how to act, who to be, and what to look like. We will undo stereotypes and shatter myths about what it means to be a girl with a disability. We will learn from each other and how to teach the world how we see ourselves. Together, we will promote critical thinking and eliminate shame while developing leadership skills and encouraging self-acceptance.

Register today! Registration Form available at https://forms.gle/kFxLLNUFf89jtWeo9

Supported decision making is an alternative to guardianship that helps people identify what they need support with, who they want support from, and how much support they need. Instead of a guardian making the decision for someone, the person can get advice that helps them make the decision that's right for them.

Michigan has recently received a 5-year grant to help develop more alternatives to guardianship like supported decision making!

If you or a loved one has questions about supported decision making and alternatives to guardianship, visit https://linktr.ee/disabilityrightsmi (Link In Bio) or call (517) 487-1755/(800) 288-5923 (Voice).

[DT] Text top reads What is supported decision making? Graphic is of a young man with a backpack with three arrows from him leading to an image of money, a calendar, and a doctor's symbol, the next arrow leading to a group of people, and the third arrow leading to colored arrows representing decision paths. Text next to the first arrow reads Person decides what they need help managing. Text next to the people reads Picks trusted people to get advice from. Text next to decision arrows reads People help the person choose, instead of deciding for them.
