Secondhand Smoke Increases Cardiometabolic Risks.
Using data from the STEPS survey, researchers found that regular exposure to secondhand smoke at home or work is associated with higher risk of several cardiometabolic conditions, including high blood pressure (13%), metabolic syndrome (12%), high cholesterol (18%), and diabetes (16%). Exposure in both settings—at home and at work—nearly doubles the risk for these conditions.
