Please allow extra time to get to appointments over the next several weeks (months???😬). And above all else drive safely!

TRAFFIC ALERT: It’s orange barrel season, baby, so why not kick it off with a BIG ONE?

Beginning today, you will see lane closures and traffic shifts on both directions of Eastman Avenue (US-10 BR) from Harcrest Drive to US-10 and on Wackerly Street from Woodpark Drive to Eastman. Our friends at MDOT will be making significant improvements to the Eastman/Wackerly intersection, which will include adding dedicated thru and right turn lanes on northbound Eastman and a dedicated right turn lane on westbound Wackerly. Sidewalk improvements are also on the agenda.

So, what do you need to know?

1) Now through approximately May 30, right turns will be restricted onto eastbound Wackerly from northbound Eastman. If you want to go east on Wackerly, you’ll be detoured up Eastman to Commerce Drive, east on Commerce to Jefferson Avenue, and south on Jefferson to Wackerly. Map in the comments.

2) As this is a major intersection that regularly sees high traffic volumes, significant delays are expected in the construction area throughout this project. We encourage motorists to find alternate routes around the closure to get to their destinations, if possible. Please use caution (and extreme amounts of patience) if driving through the construction area while work is underway.

3) This is not a City project; however, we’ll do our best to communicate any necessary updates in a timely and efficient manner as we receive them. We’re excited to see the positive results of this work and we hope you are, too! After June 30, we’re hopeful your days of sitting at this intersection for 15 minutes wondering why there are two Speedways within 1000 yards of each other will be over.

4) We don’t know the answer to the Speedway thing, so feel free to create your own conspiracy theories.

Thank you for your patience!

Facts: Hypertension affects more than 3 million male and female Americans per year. If Blood Pressure (BP) is not controlled, it can lead to Heart Disease or Strokes, as well as compromising other organs.

Definition: Hypertension is defined as the systolic reading (the top number) 130 or > and the diastolic (the bottom number) 80 or >. Systolic reading is the amount of pressure it takes for the heart to compress (push blood out to the arteries) and the diastolic is the resting portion of the heartbeat.

Risks Factors: Obesity, Age, Family History, Stress, Diet, Lack of Exercise, Alcohol Consumption, Diabetes, Kidney Disease and Sleep Apnea (snoring along with stop breathing when sleeping).

Hypertension is often called the silent disease and symptoms may not occur until it is well advanced in the process.

Symptoms:
• Headaches
• Dizziness
• Nose Bleeds (unexplained)
• Swelling
• Fatigue
• Heart symptoms

Life style changes are highly recommended including eating a heart healthy diet (DASH), exercising at least 30 minutes most days of the week, stopping smoking, decreasing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of sodium in your diet. Using a BP monitor at home may also be suggested and learning how to obtain correct readings is important.

Blood Pressure readings greater than the 130/80 range or if you have concerns with any of the above mentioned information, please make an appointment with your health care provider to discuss and be evaluated.

Please vaccinate yourself and your eligible child. We know the vaccines do protect against death and hospitalization from COVID. Please wear masks if recommended, especially if you are around those that cannot be vaccinated. We know the delta variant is more contagious and our kids are vulnerable….

Children can and do get very ill from the virus. The delta variant, the unvaccinated and a summer surge in a childhood respiratory disease are worrying.

These individuals are experts in their field and among the best our country has to offer. If you are not vaccinated, please read and seriously consider the risks of Covid infection for your family…especially with the rise of the new Delta variant and its more contagious and severe nature.
