What is SafeSitter?
SafeSitter was created out of tragedy.
In 1980, Dr Patricia Keener founded SafeSitter when a young child (toddler) died as a result of a choking incident while under the care of an untrained, unprepared adult babysitter.
•SafeSitter is a class to teach children & teens the safety & proper techniques of babysitting as a business or as an older sibling staying at home with younger sibling(s).
The Expansion class, is a 2 day class, in which the students learn CPR. (4th grade & up)
•Safe @ Home is a class to teach children & preteens how to be safe at home alone. (4th Grade & up)
•Grandparents & Getting Started are short classes, offered to Grandparents, to be taught the most up to date safety for their new grandchildren. Things are not the same as when they raised their children, or their parents raised them. A lot has changed. Getting Started is a great class, for both Grandparents & teen parents. Learning safety, as well as CPR/Choking emergency response.
Has your child shown an interest in starting their own business? This would be a great start, and being certified in CPR/First Aid, they would be trusted more, and can earn more. Do you need to leave your younger children in the care of your oldest, to work overtime or an extra job? Your oldest child would benefit from these classes.
Grandparents certainly benefit from the grandparents course, bringing things to remembrance they may have forgot over the years, dangers exist today that didn’t when you were a child. CPR & Choking techniques have also changed over the years.
Do you have or know of an expectant Teen Mom, or recently became a Teen Mom? SafeSitter also has a class for you!
Being trained and knowing how to perform lifesaving measures is a tool that is always better to know and have, and never need or use; than to be faced with a tragic situation & not know what to do.
EMS typically takes 9+ minutes to arrive from the time of dispatch relaying the call of distress. Your immediate response is the difference between life and possible death.
The loss of a child is a pain I do not wish for anyone to experience. When it can be prevented, such as safety incidents, allow me the opportunity to teach you how to prevent & respond when necessary.
Thank you!
Silver Martin
