A common misconception in youth sports is that resistance training is dangerous for children.
The current consensus from organizations like the NSCA and American Academy of Pediatrics shows the opposite: appropriately designed and supervised strength training is safe for youth and can actually reduce sport-related injury risk while improving performance.
In sports like gymnastics and cheer, athletes already experience very high external forces during landings and skills. Structured strength training simply helps the body tolerate what it is already being asked to do in sport.
