Food Allergies and Super Bowl Parties
The Big Game is almost here! Prepping and serving dishes for your friends and family with food allergies can be a scary task. Weâre here to share a few hints and tips to make your party safe AND a success.
*Ask guests in advance if they have any allergens. You can then plan your menu with any special needs in mind.
*Invite guests to bring along a dish or two that they know is safe for their allergy.
*Be sure to label every dish with potential allergens. The top 9 are a good place to start: wheat, soy, milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, and sesame. Keep packaging handy for anyone who may need a little more information regarding the ingredients. This allows families to make informed choices about which foods are safe.
*When preparing and serving dishes, be mindful of cross contamination. Use a new cutting board and utensils for each recipe. Use separate serving platters or bowls for each recipe as well. Be especially careful with condiments or ingredients that will be used in an allergen friendly dish. Always wash your hands between handling each allergen friendly dish.
*Invite guests with allergies to serve themselves first to help avoid cross contamination. Providing separate serving utensils for each dish can also help prevent cross contamination.
*These hints and tips are just a start. Feel free to do your own research to make your event even more comfortable for your friends and family with allergies.
