Active Recovery + Performance Helping Athletes Move Better & Feel Better With A Unique Blend of Chiropractic Care, Massage, & Exercise Therapy. Call 804.378.6035

Our clinic prides itself on providing individualized care specific to your needs and imbalances. By combining soft tissue treatment, corrective exercises in conjunction with chiropractic and manual therapy, we are able to resolve even the most stubborn musculoskeletal conditions. We provide the most comprehensive approach by addressing all aspects of your body — soft tissue, movement, posture, balance, stability, and strength. We are a 3000 square foot facility with private treatment rooms, exercise therapy space, strength and conditioning space, and massage rooms. Your treatment often includes massage therapy, chiropractic treatment, posture therapy, progressive exercise programs, and advanced soft tissue techniques like Active Release Technique (ART), Dry Needling, Graston Technique, and movement analysis like Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). Your visit will feel like you’ve seen a massage therapist, chiropractor, and exercise therapist all in the same visit.

Remember… we get to do this.

We’re lucky to get outside, move our bodies, and see what they’re capable of. Sometimes we forget that we get to do this.

It’s funny how often we don’t realize how much it means to us until we’re injured and suddenly can’t.

One of the things we love most at Active is helping people work through that frustration and get back to doing what they love.

Our focus is always on what you can do, not what you can’t. And many times people come out the other side stronger than they were before the injury even happened.

So if you’re feeling stuck, frustrated, or just dealing with a nagging issue, we can help.

And on your next run, ride, or workout…

Smile.
Be grateful.
Enjoy the day.

At Active Recovery + Performance we are always working to get better.

Yesterday was a VO2 max testing day for our team. Testing. Learning. Sharpening our skills so we can better serve the athletes and patients we work with every day.

We test both run and bike, helping athletes understand their physiology and dial in the right heart rate zones for training.

Guessing is easy. Knowing is better.

Through April we are offering 25% off VO2 max testing to help athletes dial in their heart rate zones for the season.

Train with purpose.

I love our local running community.

River City Half this morning was a great reminder of that. We’re lucky to have such a great running community and such a positive atmosphere around these events.

For me today wasn’t a race effort. Just a half marathon at marathon pace as part of the build.

One of the underrated things about local racing is the energy. You get structure, great company, and a workout that’s a lot more fun than doing it alone.

Not every race has to be raced.

Sometimes it’s just a great day to run with good people.

Happy ! Meet Mary 💪🇺🇸

Mary is an ROTC Cadet at VCU, so staying strong and physically capable is essential. A few weeks ago, she came to see me after developing a hip labrum tear from overtraining for an upcoming Ranger Challenge competition. Walking, running, and rucking had all become extremely painful.

After just a few weeks of treatment and addressing the muscular imbalances that contributed to the injury, Mary is now walking and running pain-free again 🙌

She’s continuing to build strength and stability so she can return to training stronger than before.

So proud of your progress, Mary!

Over the years I’ve lined up for just about everything. 5Ks, marathons, sprint tris, more than 20 Ironmans.

A couple years ago I stepped away from aggressive competitive training. Not because I was hurt or done. It was more of a shift toward longevity. Family has always been first. The clinic kept growing. My approach to performance evolved.

Now I’m stepping back into racing with a different lens. Less about stacking miles. More about durability. Strength and recovery aren’t extras anymore. They’re the foundation.

That evolution has shaped how we’ve built Active. Athletes treating athletes. We train the way we treat.

As I train, I’ll share the process and give you a real look at what it’s like to be on the other side of the table here. The training, the setbacks, the recovery and the adjustments. How a team helps build the kind of quality life we’re chasing.

This isn’t about chasing who I used to be. It’s about seeing what’s possible now and doing it in a way that lasts.

If you’re navigating a full life and still trying to compete, I’d love to hear what it looks like for you.

Dr. Rob is back with our last Myth Busters, and this one’s about neck adjustments‼️

A lot of people assume that if you see a chiropractor, your neck is automatically getting adjusted. Not true.

Neck adjustments are safe and effective when appropriate, but they’re not always necessary. If a neck is already moving too much, we won’t push it further. Instead, we focus on soft tissue work and addressing the real cause, often stiffness elsewhere that’s putting stress on the neck.

We only adjust when it’s clinically needed, and we never go beyond your comfort level. 👏

Don’t let fear of a neck adjustment keep you from feeling better. 📞 Call 804.378.6035 or book at bit.ly/activeappointment.

Happy ! Meet Chris 🎾💪

Chris is a long-time patient and high-level tennis player who’s had a tough few months with two separate peripheral nerve entrapments - one in his arm that limited lifting his dominant arm, and another in his hip that affected his thigh strength.

Peripheral nerve entrapments happen when a nerve is compressed outside of the spine, often from overuse. Chris’s cases were uncommon, but with the right testing and treatment, he’s now 100% recovered from his shoulder injury and well on his way with his hip 🙌

So proud of his perseverance and commitment to getting back on the court.
