🪶 True gratitude means facing uncomfortable truths. Today, we’re reflecting on truth, healing, and what we owe to Indigenous communities as we gather with family and community.

However you’re spending this day, we hope you find moments of rest, reflection, and connection. 🤎

💕 This week, we donated diapers to support students and families through Lauren Hunter Smith, Community School Resource Coordinator at Hermitage High!

Diapers aren’t a luxury, they’re a necessity. When schools step up to support their communities, we show up right alongside them. 💪🏽

Hermitage High, thank you for showing up for your families every single day. The work you do matters, and we’re honored to support it.🤎

🚨 December 31st. That’s when ACA subsidies expire and 106,000 Virginians lose coverage.

Premiums could jump 30-50% leading families to choose between healthcare and rent - a choice that could be entirely avoided.

TAKE ACTION

When it comes to TRUE reproductive justice, trans liberation is essential.

Today we hold space for the transgender and gender non-conforming lives stolen by violence and discrimination, disproportionately Black and Brown trans people, especially trans women of color.🕯️

When we fight for bodily autonomy, we fight for ALL bodies. When we advocate for dignified healthcare, we mean healthcare that sees and respects trans and gender non-conforming people, especially during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

💬 Say their names. Learn their stories at https://tdor.translivesmatter.info/

🏳️‍⚧️ Support trans-led organizations doing life-saving work

🗳️ Advocate for policies that protect trans rights and access to care

🫂 Show up for trans folks in your community, not just today, but ALWAYS.

🔴 IN THE MEDIA: Birth in Color was featured in Sheriff & Deputy magazine for our groundbreaking partnership with Arlington County Sheriff Jose Quiroz, bringing doula care to pregnant people in custody.

Only when we ensure ALL people, including incarcerated pregnant people, have access to compassionate, culturally competent care during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, can we say that we’re advocating for all.

Being behind bars doesn’t mean you don’t deserve dignity, support, and skilled birth care.

Sheriff Quiroz didn’t just talk about reform. He acted. Together, we piloted Virginia’s first jail-based doula program, providing prenatal support, hospital birth accompaniment, and postpartum care including lactation support.

And the best part? We’re JUST getting started. 💛
Stay tuned for our 2026 legislative season ya’ll. 👏🏽
