The Stress Cycle

When stress builds up beyond the body’s ability to adapt:
• Accumulated stress produces neurological changes
• Neurological changes produce changes in postural muscle tone
• Changes in muscle tone cause skeletal distortion
• Skeletal distortion negatively affects the nervous system
• A stressed nervous system reduces our ability to adapt to stress

This creates a downward spiral.

Become a Healthy Role Model

Understanding why being healthy is important helps you and your family make meaningful, lasting changes. In June 2008, the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society reported that a nutritious diet, regular exercise, and other health-conscious habits can help adults remain free of disease and disability as they age.

Here are a few simple tips to help make better lifestyle changes:

✅ Make gradual changes — for example, drink one extra glass of water per day or add 10 more minutes of walking each week.

✅ Balance bad habits with good ones — try watching TV while walking on the treadmill instead of sitting on the couch.

✅ Start walking more — take the stairs instead of the escalator and drive only when necessary.

✅ Grocery shop on a full stomach — this helps prevent impulse buying of unhealthy snacks.

✅ Slow down while eating — it takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain you’re full.

✅ Be positive — avoid talking negatively about your weight in front of your kids or putting yourself down.
