Instructor Rogers
I joined a military‑style bootcamp at 55 because I was finally ready to get serious about my health. The instructor wasn’t thrilled — he basically told me he didn’t train the “older generation,” which was news to me since I didn’t feel ancient. And it was a HIIT class, something I’d never attempted unless you count running for a fabric or yarn sale. By the end of those first 12 weeks, I wanted to quit so many times I could’ve earned loyalty points.
But I didn’t. I dropped 40 pounds, went down five dress sizes, and even the instructor stopped watching me like I might spontaneously combust.
A couple of years ago, I added Spin classes. Cycling was perfect for my cranky knees. This year, my instructor said she needed a sub and told me to get certified — and somehow, that turned into me becoming Spin certified at almost 74.
Now I’m in a whole new chapter, proving age is just a number — and definitely not the boss of me.
