October is AAC Awareness Month—a time to celebrate and honor all the different ways children & adults communicate.
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It can be gestures, facial expressions, picture symbols, sign language, or robust speech-generating devices. And here's the thing: communication is multimodal. A person may switch between pointing, pulling you toward what they want, using a visual, or speaking through a device. Every single one of those counts as communication.
